Uber Heads to the Beach!

With over half million customers and almost 25,000 drivers in the Central Valley, Uber announces they are now in the Pacific.

According to notice to users sent Monday, April 15th, Uber starts service in Liberia, Nicoya, Manuel Antonio & Jaco.

Despite the fact that – like AirBnB – Uber operates outside the transport laws of Costa Rica, their entrance into the market has been formidable.

To take advantage of the Holy Week pilgrimage to the beaches, they are even offering discounts of up 1500 colones for trips in these areas during Semana Santa.

It remains to be seen how long it will take for Uber to successfully occupy local transport in these areas.  Their presence is new and will not have the driver/customer ratio they have in San Jose.  One can only assume that places like destinations like Dominical, Arenal, Limon, South Caribbean will follow soon.
